A Long Time Ago...

Forgive the heading-the new STAR WARS film comes out this evening. Back in September Tracy had some out of town travel and I had some time off to use so I was faced with the question of how to fill that time. If you've been to Oregon in September you know that spending time binge-watching television is a poor idea so I figured I'd use that time constructively (or at least my closest approximation thereof) by taking photos. As a devoted follower of this blog you already know that taking photos of wine is just about my favorite thing ever and the coolest thing this side of sliced bread.

I reached out to a few wineries in the area and the first to get back to me was Remy Wines in Dayton, Oregon. I was more than a little excited when Remy (winemaker/owner/namesake) told me that she'd been talking with Wine Enthusiast to do a feature about Italian style grapes in America and specifically her Lagrein grapes. I hightailed it out to Dayton early on a Thursday morning and thanks to some detailed instructions I knew exactly where to set up. There was a cool fog rolling in and while a bit frustrating for epic sunrise photos it made for a cool looking shot when peering down the rows of vines. I spent a few hours out there before anyone else arrived and generally had a great time.

I found out a few weeks ago that one of my photos was used and that gave me a really overwhelming sense of satisfaction and pride. This is, to date, my first time being highlighted (at least to my knowledge) as a photographer in a major publication and I hope it's only the first of many. Here's a link to the Wine Enthusiast article. There's a few images from that shoot below and the full gallery is here. Take a peek...and if you like the images consider buying a print.
